And yes, I was tangling up two separate songs.

i think as i remember it now, the gas quatrain ran:

Ma grannie went doon tae the celler
A leak in the gaspipe tae see
She lighted a match fur tae aid her --
   Oh bring back ma grannie tae me.

I seem to remember a jeely piece chucked out the tenement window joke from a Citizens'pantomime in the sixties.
