I had hated the WTC from the time it was first conceived--the twin towers seemed like their only purpose was to be tall--they cast a bleak shadow over the neighborhood, as well--I have just seen a model for the space (which is actually rather small: about 750,000 square feet, unless I have been mis-informed) several smaller towers connected by walkways that looks a bit like connecting tictactoe grids--they allow a protected open air memorial at ground level, and alternative avenues for escape from the higher levels--it looks a bit harder to hit dead on, as well. The space is actually publically owned, by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Also, and this should be food for thought, the towers apparently were originally conceived as 80 and 90 stories, respectively--A Public Relations firm seems to have suggested that they make it the world's tallest building--
