"heard as a piece of Classical Music?" Anton Dvorak's "From the New World", Symphony #.... somethin'. Don't remember the number. Commonly referred to as "New World Symphony". He collected bits and pieces of folk music while visiting the US and built a symphony around them. It was fairly common at the time - several of Chopin's pieces were "spruced up" versions of Polish folk music. I played the Dvorak once upon a time when I was a percussionist and had to wear formals when performing.
