Thanks, everyone. Any other reference books/essays on this revolt will be greatfully accepted as well. I once read a novel called "I Don't Care If I Ever Come Back" that was about the early Irish and Irish American baseball stars. It's whole back story concerned the planning of this. Fascinating read. I will order the others recommended here.

Big Jock, some would say that it was Scotland that lost its independence in that one......but would you mind if we made that another thread?
