Jim Krause Tune Req: Altamont (6) Help--Anybody know the tune 'Altamont?' 13 Feb 03

I have had a couple of requests in the past week for a fiddle tune called "Altamont." One of the requests came from one of my bandmates.
I have the CD Altamont: Black Stringband Music. John Lusk is listed as the fiddler on the Library of Congress recording. The question is what key is Altamont customarily played in? On the recording, it sounds like Lusk is playing it out of C position. If that's the case, he has his fiddle tuned way down low. I tried playing along with my fiddle tuned to A440, and it comes out in A major. Listening to Murph Gribble's banjo tends to support my thesis.
Usually in situations like this, I try to find a printed source. None of my fiddle tune books has Altamont listed even by a different name. If any of you fiddlers out there play this tune, edumacate me. Thanks.
Jim
