I just wrote this and I hopes you enjoy it. BTW, I'm not from Australia--that's poetic license.
PLATYPUSES FOR PEACE (Brad Sondahl) I sat down to write this song, Got a few of the verses wrong, If I'd of done everything right, This verse wouldn't be in it. I wanted to get everything in, About boys and girls, and love and sin, And maybe to be a little unique, Bout the duck billed platypus down in the creek The duckbilled platypus lives on slugs and mostly underwater bugs It looks a fool but it's got a tool, Poison in its back legs But I can't waste time on the platypus I've got to sing about peace and just How depraved our policies are Always marching off to war The platypus just stays in the creek And if the world goes to the meek The sloth and the hedgehog will be in line As the platypus says, "I'm here to get mine." But back to the song, there were two kids Deep in love, that's how they lived I guess they were happy, they could ignore The war that's starting up next door And me I'd rather tune it out The wisdom of that is in doubt I'll probably regret it in the end, But this is what I'll say, my friend: The platypus lives in the mud Living on some lowly crud And though it has those poison glands It seldom takes aggressive stands Me I wish that Mr. Bush Wasn't in so big a rush After all a little match Can start too big a fire. Mr. Bush, can't you see? The world is bigger than you or me. The biggest kid on the block can be the biggest fool. Turn your twister the other way Or there will be hell to pay And that's all I've got to say At least before it starts.
