I was hunting for recordings of Amalia Rodriguez for many years after hearing her on KPFK radio (LA) a number of times.   Several songs haunted me.   I wandered in Mexico, asking bored gum-smaking 19-year old women in music stores if they had anything by her (along with other Mexican requests). And then...I finally discovered the truth!! There's a great double CD of her greatest hits - very nice.

I have to say that the new Diva, Christina Branco, is absolutely incredible. It's also the arrangements and the musicians that make her CD's so amazing, especially "Corpo Illuminado". But I also really enjoy this very young woman, Mariza, who I think has more the traditional sound, closer to Amalia, and a very impressive voice.

There's about nothing more incredible than fado.
