For what it's worth, here are the verses I use for the Butter Bean Song---to the tune of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". The stared verses are the ones I learned from Jimmie Driftwood. He said he got them from a professer in West Virginia. Ch: *Just a bowl of butter beans Pass the cornbread, if you please. I don't want no collard greens, I just want a great big bowl of butterbeans! *Just a slice of country ham; Fried potatoes, strawberry jam. I'm afraid I might bust my jeans If I eat another big bowl of butter beans. *See that pretty girl sittin' over there? She's got ruby red lips and that fine (you pick the color) hair. She's not expecting like she seems; She's just had a great big bowl of butter beans! *See that big, fat, ugly lad? He's made everybody mad. They don't love him, by no means- He's the hog that ate the last of the butter beans! I guess you've heard that old Jack's dead. He froze to death last night in his bed. The covers kept flying off; it seems He'd just had a great big bowl of butter beans! Funnel-shaped clouds fill me with fear, And mushroom-shaped clouds mean Death is near. But the scaryest clouds I've ever seen Are those little brown clouds made by them butter beans! (Insert name) likes turkey, and she likes duck, too. Chicken or pheasant, any bird will do. But if you wanna see her smile, and this is the truth, All you gotta do is give ol' ______ a goose! The energy chrisis has been solved, at last. Everybody's gonna heat using natural gas. We'll capture that gas; boil that steam. Man's greatest discovery is that little old butter bean! An alternate line for the last verse, second line is: We're gonna hook a pipe line up to everybody's yas, yas, yas Enjoy the song! Big Byrd
