I've been playing this song for years and got the reference to wealth and teeth OK, but always wondered if there was a "Diamond Joe" in real life.

As far as I know that song is the only one that makes a reference to carrying one's wealth in one's mouth. The rest of the song is a more or less "working man's lament". except for the reference to a boss that wouldn't shut up, especially about himself. I really like the song.

I'm putting together a collecton of "cowboy music" I'd like to perform up at Yellowstone this season. Just around campfires once or twice a week, it's not a "gig". We'll be up at Canyon campground working as attendents. If any of you are up that way this summer, stop by. The Van's license plate is COYOTL (Missouri).
