Do people agree that there are likely to be differences from one club to another based on the typical repertoire and style of the club? For example, there is a club local to me (North Yorkshire) where the singing (about 40% of the evening) consists largely of industrial revolution workers' songs and similar - most of the singers, and a good proportion of the attendees, are male. But in other clubs where the focus of the evening's music is different, you can find more women singing than men... It all depends. (Also, of course, it is always harder to gain the confidence to join in a chorus with a group whose voices are in a very different range than your own, just because you *will* stand out...)
