What made me drop out for a while was that I'd made what seemed a reasonable but turned out to be a mistaken deduction that this forum was about music but not about politics. I don't say the two are not intertwined - I have in my time written in detail about politics and folk song, and written and sung for many a cause. But I found that the way they were interlocked in a couple of particular threads here, and the assumed sharing of viewpoints (re party political, sociopolitical and sexual politics) that turned out to be implicit in the discussions, was so other than my political stance and position and the way I talk with other people, the only thing I could do was drop out a while. I've come back in, and now avoid any thread that wants to kick up the political dust, sticking to musical questions. Mind you, I've taken my drubbings in a couple of other electronic places, and the people here are notably civilised in their remarks.
