BUTTERFLY Lyr Req: Lillibulero - Bill Jones version (22) RE: Lyr Req: Lillibulero - Bill Jones version 28 May 03

I think Shonagh may be confusing "Lillibulero" with "Garryowen", the Irish tune popular with General Custer (did he lead the 7th Cavalry to a glorious defeat at Little Big Horn in 1876?). There is a Garryowen Rugby Football Club in Limerick but whether the tune came from Limerick I do not know.

Lillibulero was for many years the signature tune of the BBC World Service and is also known as "The Protestant Boys". There is a reference to "The Protestant Boys" in the "Old Orange Flute"

"The Sash My Father Wore" is not I think the same tune as "My Irish Molly O".
