We used to say in Dartford, that the whole country tilted westwards at the start of the holidays, when the young Welsh teachers went home. There were more men then, though, and a good many head teachers (who didn't go west, being more settled). The change in the demographics has affected a lot of things - fewer Methodists in the Union, for instance, has changed that level of political argument. Penny
