One comment on popup killers:

I got into a conversation with someone on the BBC folk board a couple of weeks ago. In brief, he was having problems with thier radio player and wanted to know the experience of others. As a result, to try something I downloaded and installed the latest version of Mozilla on Linux.

I opened the browser, went to the BBC page and tried to open the radio player. It turned out that the browser has an in built pop-up killer and when the BBC radio page (which pops up in its own window) came up, it warned me that an "unauthorised pop up" had come and offered to kill all pop-ups in the future..

That was not the problem I was trying to look for or the reason for this person's difficulty (I've not a clue what it is) but it did lead me to wonder about using pop-up killers...

In the same way as I would rather at least partly deal with spam manualy (I use something that just flags messages as "suspect") in case I missed an important message, I'd rather deal with pop-ups manualy than have a window I need to access just closed for me.
