On a only-slightly-related note, there's a line in Tom Russell's great song "Gallo Del Cielo", where Carlos Zaragoza:

"...rode into El Sueco; stole a rooster called Gallo Del Cielo
Then he swam the Rio Grande with that fighter nestled deep beneath his arm"


How did he make and lose so much money with a drowned rooster?
