and whether or not "First Americans" were capable of fitted stonework is under debate as well. Certainly many cultures among the indigines of the continent were perfectly capable of fitted stonework - the local tribes did not utilize it; but to say they were incapable is stretching it a bit. Likewise - there is documented proof of widespread trade among various tribes - and it is not inconcievable that a person or persons from an are where stonework WAS done might have ended up on the NorthEast coast.

For that matter - there is some indications that the DUTCH were in the area for some time before the English - likewise most of the coastline of New England was in use for seasonal settlements and or "rest and recreation" stops for close to 120 years prior to English settlement by fishers out of various European nations.
