katlaughing made an excellent point about the people the media coverage should have been following and reporting about, particularly in the wake of the news out of France last week. But how many of you saw any of those sorts of stories on any national network?

Or saw any extensive media coverage of Detroit, Cleveland, any rural areas, etc. It was so obvious the media could not STAND the reports coming from anywhere but the center of THEIR universe, NY. You could tell as you watched the "round the clock" coverage (and what in god's name is duller than watching 24/7 coverage of media whores with bad hair and bad lighting, interviewing people who looked just like themselves?) that the media whores just couldn't wait for that Detroit piece to end so they could get back to the REAL Blackout 2003 story (cut to more coverage of people walking over the Brooklyn Bridge for the eight thousandth time, please). I was so enlightened to learn that media bureaucrats camped out in their offices overnight. Now that was important for all of us to note.

The list of people truly endangered by the blackouts weren't, it appears, in so much danger that the mainstream media felt it necessary to cover THEM.

Or as Jon Stewart said on the Daily Show last night (and I paraphrase here):

"The fucking lights went out people--get OVER it! It wasn't the blitz."
