Thread Name: Folk singers in the Netherlands?
Subject: RE: Folk singers in the Netherlands?
I am very interested in Dutch folk songs and dance tunes. Also Flemmish. I really like most of the music I have heard, and besides, most of my grandparents came from the Netherlands. I have one little book of songs, called "Nederlands Volksleid", and I know three dance tunes. Recommendations and/or sources for more written music and any CDs would be very welcome. I have a CD by a group called Pekel, a CD of bagpipe music called "Het daghet inden Oosten", and a couple of CDs from Belgium (I think) by the groups Lais and Kadril.
I'm sorry to hear that this music is dying out. I'm doing my bit to save it -- my new Euro-trad band here in Seattle is working on a couple of Dutch songs. We're lucky enough to have a singer who can sing in Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, and French.
