Thread Name: Lyr Req: The Thing
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Thing
This was one of the first songs I performed in public - at the age of about ten, whilst on holiday with my family in the Canaries. I'd learned it from my parents' collection of Phil Harris records and was astonished when the band in the hotel didn't know it. Brought the house down (must've been the stamping!)

There are two more verses, most of which have just jumped out of what I inaccurately refer to as my memory:

I wandered all around the town until I chanced to meet
A hobo who was looking for a handout on the street
But when I tried to give it to him, he turned around and ran
Get out of here with that (boom-boom-boom) ???????????
Get out of here with that (boom-boom-boom) ???????????

I wandered on for many years, a victim of my fate
Until one day I came across St Peter at the gate
But when I tried to take it inside he told me where to go:
Get out of here with that (boom-boom-boom) and take it down below!
Get out of here with that (boom-boom-boom) and take it down below!

These fit in before the last verse given by Sorcha above. I'd love to know what the missing bit is. maybe I might even start singing it again!
