I think I first heard this sung by Arthur Godfrey, though it could have been Phil Harris. (Maybe both.) It reminds me of Tom Paxton's children's song "The Marvelous Toy" -- the chorus went, "It went zip when it moved, pop when it stopped and whirrr when it stood still. I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will."
