Story about Thomas Edison.

To get to his house, people had to open a very stiff gate. When somebody suggested to the great inventor that he invent a better way of opening the gate he said, "Why should I? The way I have it rigged now, everybody who opens that gate pumps five gallons of water out of my well up to my roof tank."

He was a very shrewd man.
