"Thursday night upstairs" is the Star Club. They do have floor spots, and are very welcoming to new faces, but it's a folk club-format and not a session. It usually goes (as best I understand it but if anyone knows better, please correct me):

Admission to Opening Floor Spot is (again, as I understand it) free, but otherwise in the £5-£6 range.
