Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Jonah and the Whale-2
Two humorous verses from an old minstrel song, in Randolph, Ozark Folk Songs, vol. 2, no. 286, Jonah and the Whale:

I'll tell you about the army that old pharoah did command,
As he follered poor old Moses long ago,
They got drownded in the river as the lines were pressing on,
And the fishes had a juber down below.

Old Jonah like a fool got stubborn like a mule,
The whale it made him quickly disappear,
Jonah jerked his razor out and he cut the whale in two,
And he paddled to the shore upon his ear.

Coll. in Arkansas, 1941. Part also in a Hamlin Wizard Oil Songbook, 1897. William Allen White remembers singing the chorus in 1883 in Kansas. Also in Brown, Folklore of North Carolina.
