Take the opportunity to get out and see what others are doing.
I don't get the chance to do this nearly enough and when I do, I nearly always come away with something new.
It's peculiar how gigs seem to come together in a flurry, often multiple offers of work for the same night, then a fortnights' inactivity, but at least I'm not reliant on them for a living, so I can be more relaxed about it than some.
If there's nobody worth the trouble of seeing locally I like to get the band together and work on some new songs, another activity which seems to come in fits and starts, either everyones got something they want to do, or we spend the evening looking at each other, doodling on our respective instruments!
You can work too hard to fill your diary and end up playing gigs that aren't really suited to you.
