THere's no issue in my mind about it; sing to warm the hearts of listeners, or to excite them or to touch them in some way. Singing to impress -- with technical skills -- is upside down. That's not what technical skills are for. What kind of value is that? Surelytechnical excellence and impressive abilities should be cultivated, but they aren't the freight, they're the dray-horse.
