Cathy Barton & Dave Para and I were hired to play at a festival/concert on the banks of the Mississippi (a town in Iowa) at the SAME TIME that the hugely amplified Charlie Daniels and his band were playing about 50 yards away. 98% of the audience were at his stage. I did my set & just moved my lips & never had to make a chord. Just played air guitar---nobody even noticed. Then went & got my check & left... Later, they sent me a thank you letter; said I'd done a fine set.

I mentioned in another thread about my gig at a bar in Winnipeg (something Cathy Fink & Duck Donald found for me)where a bunch of folks who wanted to listen got into a brawl with a bunch of drunks who wanted to be rowdy. All I really remember was standing on stage pickin' while a chair sailed in slow motion from the left side of the room to the right side & then crashed in splinters against the wall. Right then I broke into "SIMPLE GIFTS".

Most everyone quit fighting and started singing along. Ah, nostalgia.
