In driving down to the Salt Lake City airport last week (and back) I passed through the areas where wildfires burned here earlier this Summer.

Black, burned black, right down to mineral soil. Not even sagebrush stumps show twisted, burnt, bony arms. Erosion will play havoc if we have much rain before these areas restore themselves.
