Sing Out v. 35, #1, p.42. "Transcribed from the singing of Peter and
Mary Alice Amidon, this song is referred to in 'The History of Gospel Music' as one of the classics recorded by the Speer family, early pioneers of radio and TV gospel music. It was written by Harkins Freye (sic) a West Virginia native who wrote and published gospel music in the 1920's. From liner notes of The Mill Run Dulcimer Band's LP 'Sweet Songs From Yesterday': "Written by West Virginian, Harkins Frye (sic). The words can be found in any of several Stamps-Baxter hymnals". Also recorded on Folk Legacy's Sharon Hill Harmony, cassette C-86 and Sugar Hill cassetteSH-C-3768 Blue Rose by Cathy Fink, Marcy Marxer, Laurie Lewis, Molly Mason and Sally Van Meter.
Bringing up Harkins Frye (sic) on Google got 784 entries and Stamps-Baxter over 6000.
