I think you are refering to the what's known as the harp (in pianny terminalology) that thing which holds all of the strings in place and is made of some serious metal. It is connected to the soundboard but can be extrickated with one rusty bladed, worn-out, skillsaw. At least, that's what I used. Old Sarky is what I call mine.

The guitar, on the other hand, has been in a comma <(no, that's not a typo) for years ever since but through constant vigilance, reconstructive surgery, physical therapy and a lifetime of kemo we're hoping that eventually it will make a miraculous recovery as a salad bowl or planter some day.
