Boy, this one really takes me back. Bob Koester (Delmark Records) used to run blues sessions in a little basement club on North State St. in Chicago c. 1963. He'd have the likes of Big Joe Williams, Yank Rachel, Sleepy John Estes, Hammie Nixon, Sunnyland Slim, Little Brother Montgomery and occasional others. On a good night when they were all feeling good, they'd all get together and do this song. Their version wasn't as polished as Clarence Williams' recording and I never really tried to pick it up but I think it went something like this. It's only been forty years since I last heard it played so naturally it's still fresh in my mind.
G
I can tell by your knees
C7 G
You' been climbin' them coconut trees
D7 G
You' gone look like a monkey when you get old.
C7 G
When you get old, when you get old
D7 G
You' gone look like a monkey when you get old.
