Basically it really depends on the model but Selmer is far better known for their saxes and clarinets. I know that Selmer recently added a student model under the Selmer name as well. I think it would depend on the price, how it played, and what they are looking for (type of music, silver head, open hole, B foot, etc.). If they're looking for a higher quality instrument I'd look more at Gemeinhardt or start looking for classic Haynes and the like. Gemeinhardt is still making some outstanding instruments IMHO.
