Yeah, I think we ought to have this song on record. Here are the lyrics, from http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/54137/Valens_Richie/La_Bamba/
I think it's traditional. Anybbody have some background information on the song? Note the similarity to "Twist and Shout," by The Beatles.

LA BAMBA
Para bailar la bamba
Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia para me para ti
Arriba y arriba
Y arriba y arriba por ti sere
Por ti sere
Por ti sere
Yo no soy marinero
Yo no soy marinero
Soy capitan
Soy capitan
Soy capitan
Bam ba bamba
Bam ba bamba
Bam ba bamba
Arriba y arriba
Y arriba ya arriba, por ti sere
Por ti sere
Por ti sere
Bam ba bamba
Bam ba bamba
Bam ba bamba
In fairness, I think I should post these wise words from someone who is far more cultured than I.... [grin]Thread #10718 Message #77509

Thread Name: WORST single lines
Subject: RE: WORST single lines
You favor the strangling before the drawing and quartering then? I wish someone would have thought of that in the execrable last scene from "Braveheart," so we wouldn't have had to watch Mel Gibson writhe handsomely and overact for 20 minutes!I don't know if it's the WORST single line, but for sheer inexplicable, we might go to that famous old Mexican folk song made so famous by Ritchie Valens (YEARS before my time, of course) "La Bamba." The first verse is cute, "Para bailar la bamba..." ("To dance la bamba, you need a little grace and another little thing...") then we cut to the "Yo no soy marinero, soy capitan, soy capitan..." What does it mean, "I'm not a sailor, I'm the captain..." Huh? This, as far as I can tell, is it for that song.
(It may not matter anyway, since people only sing "Para bailar la bamba, la la la la la la la la...etc." anyway.
