true Rapiaire, I was speculating on another reason, that they are just more prevalent in our dwellings this time of year, therefore the natural association with the season, which probably preceeds our more stereotyped association with haunted houses and the declaration by the church that Hallowe'en was a time to honour departed Christian spirits.

If pumpkins popped out of the ground in June they would probably have had bugger all to do with Hallowe'en.
