To get to Top of Coom....try for the Beara Peninsula, take a left on the road out of Ballyvourney where you should be going straight, climb a rather steep road along side a raging torrent of a brook, and don't let the sheepdog that lies in wait on the side of that road scare you. When the road flattens a bit and you think you can see the other side, look to your left and there is a pub there.

It helps if your just off the plane and are still a bit groggy; if you have three maps and a grand sense of adventure; and you haven't had your first Guinness.

I'm guessing that it was about 5 km west of Ballyvourney...just before leaving Cork for Kerry.
