Arlen has generally tended to support progressive social legislation, and, with the notable exception of his prosecutorial questioning of Anita Hill, has tended to be a big supporter of equal and human rights --As with all politicians, he is expedient rather than ethically or morally consistant when supporting things--

When you review his career, you will find that he cemented himself to the fast track to political power when he was a young lawyer involved in the official investigation of a rather famous crime by devising something called the "Single Bullet Theory"--
