I'm no authority, but...John D'Angelico built guitars in New York (City) from 1932 until 1964. They can fetch between 5 and 100 thousand dollars, depending on the market, the condition, and model. Though there appear to have been several generalized models, they vary considerably in cosmetics, fixtures, soundholes, bracing and other things. Some guitars are being produced under the D'Angelico name overseas I think, but I've neither seen or played one.
I bet Stanley Jay at Mandolin Brothers (NY) knows more than a little about this.
