Umm, they sent in the army on the second day. Who cares what the suits promise??? And although Chretien has been shamefully absent, PM-in-waiting Paul Martin has been there--we hope that his interest will translate into relief funding when, or before, he takes power.

One thing that I found a bit of a joke was Stephen Harper of all people, (leader of the federal Opposition) lecturing the government on the very day after the hurricane, asking how much money they would commit to send. Mr Harper didn't make a big hit when he visited Halifax a couple of years ago to complain about the Maritime "culture of dependency" on federal handouts. This has to be the first time he's asked them to send more.   

I agree though, that the disaster has fallen off the media radar rather quickly considering the amount of damage. It's literally become last week's news. No really new developments, since thankfully Hurricane Kate didn't go that way.
