I agree that this disaster has been neglected in the rest of the country...but why? is it because of where it happened ? ( that is my guess) or is it because, as you suggest, it is explainable. As a Nova Scotian I have always felt somewhat ignored by Canada and that the views of people like Stephen Harper are the dominant view of Atlantic Canadians. Sometimes I could just weep for what has happened to this beautiful place, my home, not because it happened, but because the vast majority of my countrymen don't care that it happened.
   I wish that all Canadians could come here to Nova Scotia, see what a jewel it is and how grand the people. I just feel so hurt that we are so ignored.
   The damage here is huge, to both land and spirit..the land by hurricane, the spirit by neglect. But we will get on and be who we are.
