Thread Name: October Shanty Session at the Press Room
Subject: RE: October Shanty Session at the Press Room
I was impressed with the young woman who parachuted into the song circle and came up with a spontaneous railroad workers' song. Maybe it's not original but it sure seemed to be drawn out of the ambience of the Press Room.
I think "we" did a good job of dealing with these two when they became too distracting. Of course I didn't do much at all except stumble over my lyrics.
I especially liked Jeff Warner's rendition of the Civil War ballad "The Cumberland" and would have liked to follow it with something like "The Bold Benjamin" but by the time the circle cycled back to me I was thinking of something entirely different, as is often the case.
Heard some fine harmonies! And some real progress in the chorus and break-away in "Dead Dog Cider."
I still get chills listening to Barbara sing.
I'm working up some verses for a new "Sailortown" song, a themesong for Roll & Go's next CD. If you've suggestions, the verses are very fresh, I'm starting a new thread entitled "Rolling Down to Sailortown."
Oh, it looks like I'll be making the Shanty Swap on November 8th; we don't leave for OZ until November 11.
