She told me her father had been Irish and had sung her lots of Irish songs when she was a kid, but she couldn't remember any. I said maybe if she heard someone else sing them they'd bring back memories.

We like functioning in a state close to anarchy. Rules are understood and consented to, but usually there's no sign of enforcement. The discomfort I felt was not necessarily because she was doing a few obnoxious things but because I (and most of us) didn't know how to ask her to stop without feeling like a mean bossy person and therefore felt a bit guilty. I always understand situations like this long after the opportunity to do something right is past, but I'll never feel that comfortable with being an 'authoritay'. Bruce does that sort of stuff with kindness and finesse.
