Entry-level guitars, like those just mentioned, are far superior to a lot of, what was once considered, professional instruments of 30 years ago. The factory production process is so refined now there are some excellent guitars around the £100-£150 mark. (Why is it always more expensive in the UK?) I've gone shopping a couple of times lately on behalf of students, and have come away with Fenders each time. Decent tone, good neck and set-up to play straight from the box.
