Thread Name: BS: Searching for St. James churches in Oz
Subject: BS: Searching for St. James churches in Oz
Hi all. This may sound like a strange request, but I figured that Mudcat was the place for strange requests.
Two of my sisters are adopted from South Korea; they came to Canada at the age of 10 after living in a World Vision orphanage in Taegu. One sister was sponsored by my mother (one of those foster child programs where you make a monthly donation for an individual), and the other was sponsored by "the youth group of St. James Church in Australia." This was between 1966 and 1974 (not necessarily all of that time).
My mother has recently decided that, what with the internet and all, it might be possible to track down that church, correspond with a former youth group member, and possibly even obtain pictures or letters (we have no other info/pics from my sister's childhood).
What I am looking for is some suggestions on how you would undertake this search in a reasonably thorough but efficient way. What my mother has started doing is yahooing "St. James" and "Australia" and looking at each match individually, but I suspect that there's a better way. Perhaps some of the larger denominations would have online directories of all their parishes? Or do you have your telephone book listings on a website?
Thanks mates,
Marion (secretly expecting a Mudcat miracle where someone will say, "Oh yes, I remember sponsoring a Korean orphan when I went to youth group at St. James).
