The difference that still exists between the Tory and Labour Party is that the membership of the Tory party out in the country tend actually to be further to the right, and more authoritarian than the people who control the party machine; and in the case of Labour it's the other way round - the people who control the party machine are further to the right and more authoritarian than the membership.
