DT CORRECTION??? - I'd guess the phrase is "drunk as a newt, right? I don't know what a "neut" is unless it's some kind of eunuch, and I can't picture a drunken newt. All the newts I've known have been quite sober.
Of course, if I were suddenly to become a eunuch, I might think that a darn good reason to get drunk...
