Well, Andy, I'd rather hear it from the "choochter's" mouth than from some academic in the States, but I didn't read his take on it to mean hillbillies. Anyway, thanks for the info. Is that a phonetic spelling? If not, how does one pronounce it correctly? I do find it very interesting, esp. as my great-grandparents on both sides were Scottish, and if I have it correctly, at least two of them were Highlanders, the Sutherland and the Ewing.
