THE LONG BRANCH BRANCH OF THE RED BANK BANK
(Alan Ferguson)

Song composed by Alan Ferguson, then an executive with the Prudential Life Insurance Co., and transmitted through Dick Levine, the singing dentist from Middletown NJ.

1. Of all the many wonders that we have here in this state,
There's one I'd like to mention, 'cause I think it's really great:
It's not the Jersey Central, or even Middletown,
But of all the places on the Shore I think it takes the crown:

CHO: It's bigger than Route 35, it's more fun than Two Guys,
It's sweeter than Secaucus, and not so many flies,
It's here in Monmouth County, and I think we ought to thank
The folks who built the Long Branch branch of the Red Bank Bank.

2. There's pens in all the holders, and the money's always clean,
There's Little Silver dollars and the clerks are never mean,
The manager's from Oceanport, and he'll bid you a good day,
And he'll always lend you money if you promise to repay.

3. The fragrant Jersey Meadows have nothing on this place,
Compared to it the Long Branch pier is nearly a disgrace,
More lovelier than Perth Amboy, or even Asbury Park:
It's got fluorescent lighting and it's lit up after dark.

Of course, immediately after Alan wrote the song, the Red Bank Savings and Loan merged with some other bank and changed its name, and I believe closed the Long Branch office too. Sic transit....^^
