Subject: Tune ID Req: Aogeba Tootoshi
Does anyone know this tune? The tune with Japanese words (as "Aogeba TooToshi" [With the Grateful Respect for the Teachers]) appeared in a school songbook titled Shoogaku Shooka-shuu [Elementary School Songs] (vol. 3, Tokyo, 1884) published by the [Japanese] Ministry of Education. I've seen the original score, but there was no mention of its sources. There's some speculation, without any foundation, that it's "Scottish" because it was paired with "Hotaru no Hikari" (Auld Lang Syne). The two songs have been sung at graduation ceremonies across the country since. Thanks in advance.
