Subject: RE: Tech: Recommended beginner fiddle bows?
Well, I have driven the compostits and don't like them much...but then I have 2 permanbuco sticks, both with real horse hair....I think the wood sticks are MUCH more responsive than the carbon thingies....but I may be prejudiced. I would say, ask for a gift certificate to a string/bow shop and try them out yourself....my newest (and favorite) was a consignment from the Salt Lake City UT, (US) concertmaster, bought at a consignment shop in SLC....I loved it....

The clerk said '2'...I understood that to mean $200.00 US....Mr. thought it really meant $2.00 US.....he said, go for it...so I did....LOL, did he nearly have heart failure....this bow was originally $900.00 US on congsignment...hadn't sold....bows are SO individual....I found a French one at a festival several years ago that I still lust after....only $1,700.....but, I like heavy bows and not everybody does....a heavy viola bow would do me fine if it were a pernamubco stick......and real horsehair....can't stand that fiberglass stuff.....

Get a gift certificate......try the bows yourself....
