Well head banging may not be Headbanging, but it was still head banging. I don't think inane was meant as an insult--more in the sense of fitting the sensibility and spirit of the music. At an event I remember a guy played an empty blender, and the "Puree" setting was generally agreed on as the most classic headbanger for the time.
