I never said there wasn't a place for such songs, and there certainly is, Den. Nor did I ever say that their fans were all stupid, many were/are not. As for the musicians, many of them are/were excellent musicians and smart people. It's just that the stupid side of that type of music is very funny...as is the stupid, pretentious, dead serious side of folk music, but in a different way...it's more low key on the whole, to say the least.

For a humorous movie about heavy metal, see Spinal Tap. For a humorous movie about folk, see "A Mighty Wind". Both are quite funny, but Spinal Tap is funnier, because heavy metal tends toward more extreme situations, which makes for great humorous possibilities.

There is probably a good deal to laugh about in any style of music, if you look at it from a slightly skewed angle of observation or focus on its more close-minded afficionados with their little mind games of oneupmanship and "specialness".

Now, I realize that by strict definition you are quite correct that true headbanging music started in the late 70's, and I am familiar with some of it.

But for the purposes of this thread, I am after songs that:

1. are meant to be played really f**king LOUD
2. are obviously aggressive and youth-oriented
3. express some measure of hostility toward "straight" society and its authority figures, such as teachers, parents, bosses, politicians, etc...the more hostility the better
4. or just plain ROCK! This can include happy songs too.

So...rather than just pure headbanging music, I believe this would include certain songs from the following genres:

Rock n' Roll, Rock, Hard Rock, Acid Rock, Heavy Metal, Folk-Rock, Glamrock, Techno, Electric Blues, Rap, Punk, New Wave, Alternative, Grundge, Ska, Hip Hop, and who knows what the heck else, as long as it's meant to be played f**king LOUD!

And some of it is very stupid and inane, while some of it is not. Some of it's even brilliant.
